A vacant full‑time position for a Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist – Cardiac Devices has arisen in Mersey West Lancashire Hospital Trust.

The successful candidate will be an RCCP registered Physiologist, with a post‑grad qualification in a specialised area, with sufficient number of years’ post‑qualification experience. It is important that the candidate can demonstrate flexibility, good communication skills, and the ability to work as a team member.
The candidate will work alongside fellow Consultants, nurses and other Healthcare professionals to ensure high standards are maintained across the organisation. This post is based in Whiston Hospital and requires that you work flexibly across all MWL sites.
Responsibilities
* Adhere strictly to all Department and Trust policies.
* Deputise for the department manager when necessary.
* Provide fully comprehensive, unsupervised reports of a highly professional standard in a range of procedures.
* Use clinical judgement to act on reports in an unsupervised way.
* Have highly specialised knowledge and skill in at least one specialist area and be responsible for the development and delivery of that service.
* Conduct clinical supervision of testing in this area.
* Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures.
* Produce costs for each procedure.
* Implement staff training programmes for all levels of staff.
* Peer‑evaluate competency levels.
* Control stock and consumable costs in this area.
* Maintain optimal functioning and regular servicing of equipment.
* Initiate research and audit programmes to review services and monitor capacity.
* Provide regular updates to the manager on service progress and redesign.
* Set up new services and expand the Physiologist role into areas traditionally covered by doctors.
* Deputise for other service leads in their absence.
* Participate in out‑of‑hours sessions when required.
* May be called upon to participate in a 24‑hour on‑call emergency rota covering a range of invasive and non‑invasive tests.
* During out‑of‑hours or on‑call sessions, take on a level of managerial control of departmental issues.
* Take on a level of managerial control as designated by the manager.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Deliver clinical skills and knowledge unsupervised across a wide range of basic and specialised clinical procedures.
* Be proficient in a range of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac procedures.
* Provide high‑quality care for patients.
* Deliver complex information and instruction in a sensitive manner, considering the diverse needs of all patients regardless of age or ability.
* Communicate information concerning patients and their test results, giving advice and recommendations to a wide range of staff groups on a regular basis.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensure the accuracy of data quality in line with departmental policies and that all procedures are current and correct.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
* Design and implement training and education programmes in own specialist area.
* Assist with the delivery of education programmes in a broad range of subjects to a variety of staff throughout the Trust.
* Actively participate in the mentorship arrangement and liaise with Higher Education Institutes to provide teaching and placements when required.
