About Us
Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen's House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy 'Charting Our Course' puts people at the core of its success.

The role
Working in the Governance and Museum Records department and reporting to the Records Manager, the Museums Records Assistant will care for and provide access to the Museum's corporate records to staff and external enquirers. The Museums Records Assistant will also provide training, support and guidance on the management of contemporary museum records, and on information management best practice and relevant legislation. This role is based at the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre (PPMCC, Kidbrooke).

Key responsibilities will include administration of the electronic documents and records management system (EDRMS), providing training to Museum colleagues who require access to our EDRMS, and ensuring that records are accessible as required, and supporting the accessioning of records from other departments into the Museum Records Collection. The post holder will assist the supervision of volunteers and work placements, provide assistance to internal and external researchers, and be involved in talks, exhibitions and tours about the Museum Records' services and collection.

The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deal with colleagues at all levels, members of the public and groups, as well as having a flexible attitude and the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail, sound judgement and initiative, and good IT skills and knowledge of programmes in the Microsoft Office 365 suite is essential for this role, particularly Excel. A good level of general fitness is required as some lifting and use of ladders is involved.

This is a full time, permanent role in Band 8 - Assistants. Core hours of work will be 36, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, although due to the nature of the work, some flexibility may be required.
