Exciting Leadership Opportunity: SENDCo Role in Surrey Schools

We are seeking an exceptional and resilient leader to take on the role of SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator), reporting directly to the Head of School.

This critical position is based at Chaldon School, including the Caterham location, and plays a central role in the leadership and management of the school.

Key Responsibilities and Main Purpose

As the SENDCo, your main focus will be to develop the schools Special Education Needs (SEN) provision and oversee its day:to:day operation with the ultimate goal of raising SEN pupil achievement.

You will be expected to:

Oversee the day:to:day operation of the special education policy.
*

Ensure the school meets its statutory responsibilities for each pupils Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and defined SEND assessment.
*

Coordinate and deploy the schools SEN provision, including staff (such as therapists), resources, strategies, and support.
*

Advise and assist the Head of School with the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
*

Lead and manage the schools therapy offer.
*

Prepare information and carry out annual statutory reviews.
*

Ensure that there is an integrated approach to the schools SEN provision.
*

Act as Deputy Exam Officer for the site, managing exams, accreditation, and ensuring JCQ requirements are met.
*

Oversee high:quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.
*

Lead successful transition plans to secure Post:16 destinations.

The role also involves Leadership and Management duties, working closely with the Head of School on tasks like recruitment, policy implementation, managing CPD for classroom staff, and budget management.Essential Requirements

To be considered for this vital role, you must have:

*

Essential Qualifications: QTS or equivalent.
*

Essential Experience:

*

A proven track record of excellent creative and structured teaching within relevant key stages and/or a special needs environment.
*

Experience in leading a significant area or phase or inclusion, including responsibility for raising standards across the whole school.
*

Successful management of complex scenarios and conflict resolution.

*

Professional Knowledge and Skills:

*

A clear understanding of the essential qualities for effective teaching and learning.
*

Understanding of the implementation of ASD intervention and support strategies (TEACCH or similar).
*

Up:to:date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance on education, attainment, progress, and assessment.
*

Analysis of data to evaluate pupil group performance and inform school improvement planning.

Please note: The role requires significant resilience and a degree of physical fitness commensurate with involvement in the full range of school activities and the ability to be involved in physical restraint on occasion.Desirable Qualities

We are particularly interested in candidates who also possess:

Desirable Qualifications: Accredited training in specific areas of special education (e.g., Autism, Dyslexia) or NPQSL/H/SENDCo (or a willingness to achieve it within 2 years).
*

Desirable Experience: Experience of teaching children with autism, and evidence of developing and delivering effective and inspirational professional development.

The successful candidate is expected to act in a way that promotes the overall aims, values, and ethos of the wider organisation, participate in regular training, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults.
