Junior Sister

We are looking for experienced Interventional Radiology nurse to join our Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse team. The IR department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals was named by National Vascular Registry as the highest performing interventional centre in the UK in 2024, conducting almost 1,200 minimally invasive treatments in a single year.

The post holder should demonstrate a dynamic approach to their work and have commitment, drive and enthusiasm to drive the development of our services within Interventional Radiology Theatres.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective running of the department, providing clinical leadership and managerial support in the absence of the Senior Sister, working as a highly skilled member of the multidisciplinary team, practicing a high standard of clinical care and being key to improve the patients experience.

The post holder will be required to coordinate the department, need to be prepared to work within a busy environment and be forward thinking and passionate about delivering a high standard of care.

Applicants should have an enthusiastic approach to teaching junior members of staff and students. You must have a clear idea regarding your career development and be a team player with a flexible attitude to meet the service needs.

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications

* NMC Registered Nurse
* Educated to degree level
* Evidence of Leadership
* Teaching qualification
* Evidence continued Professional Development
* Proven ability to mentor/preceptor junior members of staff


Knowledge, Training & Experience

* Experience in Interventional Radiology, must be minimum 3 years
* IV Drug Administration
* Ability to undertake staff performance reviews and set objectives
* Extended scope of practice to include; Conscious sedation. Venepuncture. Cannulation


Communication and Interpersonal skills

* Be able to work on own initiative
* Demonstrates understanding of confidentiality
* Participate in standard setting and research projects
* Evidence showing clinical and professional development
* To be able to plan, assess, evaluate and implement patient care
* Ability to prioritise care associated with changing environment/patient demands
* Facilitate learning of others


Special Attributes and other

* Demonstrates empathy and diplomacy when dealing with complaints and incidents
* Excellent organisational skills
* Flexible and reliable
* Ability to facilitate change


Other requirements

* Must be able to reach hospital within 30 minutes for on‑call working
* Requirement and ability to wear X‑ray protective clothing
