In conjunction with Team Leader in Advice, Guidance and Learner Support, the post holder will provide appropriate and impartial information, advice, and support to all prospective and current students in all campuses and in a range of settings. This will include the extended College community in Glasgow and elsewhere, as part of a quality, efficient and effective service.

1. Provide appropriate impartial information and advice to prospective and current students
2. Provide appropriate pastoral, information and guidance to prospective and current students
3. Encourage learners to develop positive strategies and skills to manage their own wellbeing and mental health
4. Arrange and participate in pre-entry support appointments as necessary, including transition, College tours, interview support e.g. reader/scribe.
5. Provide impartial progression guidance and transition support with a view to providing positive destinations.
6. Monitor and respond to departmental communication, for example, generic inboxes and phone enquiries
7. Provide departmental office cover and ad hoc support when required
8. Be the first point of contact and liaise with the College Faculties, support departments and other college teams, e.g. Safeguarding and Equalities, as required when advocating on behalf of the student
9. Deliver presentations, talks, workshops and group work to/with designated groups both within and out with the College
10. Plan, deliver and promote services in collaboration with Team Leaders and Manager in AGLS
11. Deal with referrals for learners requiring additional support to learn. This could involve full Needs Assessment, including DSA, one to one ongoing support, progress reviews and faculty feedback, welfare issues or dealing with information and advice issues relating to courses of study.
12. Work with learners requiring support to progress UCAS applications, including liaising with faculty staff
13. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders and agencies, including Deaf Action, National Autistic Society, Citizens Advice, Mental Health support agencies, Action for Children etc.
14. Participate in CPD on current developments to help support students and ensure best practice e.g. of assistive technologies
15. Provide effective support and communication to navigate sensitive or challenging situations.
16. Attend external and College events in an Adviser role as appropriate.
17. Work collaboratively as a member of the Student Support Services Team.
18. Provide ad hoc information to Team Leaders to allow preparation of reports and related information for senior management
19. Maintain accurate records and data and contribute to evaluation of service delivery in line with the operational plan.

Qualifications:

20. Good standard of education (HNC or above)
21. Experience in working in a similar role.
22. Possess or working towards an appropriate guidance or inclusion qualification

Knowledge:

Demonstrable knowledge of

23. Demonstrate knowledge of inclusion and disabilities
24. Knowledge relating to student support and / or UCAS applications. Skills and Competencies:
25. Knowledge of pastoral care and wellbeing
26. Demonstrate knowledge of student issues within Further Education Student Funding and the benefits system
27. Good level of IT Literacy including a working knowledge of MS Word, Teams, Access, and Excel
28. Ability to work online and face to face
29. Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a Team
30. Ability to remain calm in demanding situations
31. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
32. Confident and self-motivated
33. Potential flexibility to cover evening events as required

Skills and Competencies

Experience:

34. Previous experience of working within a Further Education environment; and
35. Previous experience of working within a customer care and client central environment
36. Previous experience of working with a diversity of clients especially those with additional support needs or speakers of other languages advantageous
37. Previous experience of working in an advocacy role
38. Previous experience of funding issues/money management support
