Job Description
The Nurse Educator is responsible for developing and applying evidence-based heart and vascular practice standards to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role includes overseeing educational activities within areas of expertise, fostering competency development, and ensuring evidence-based, individualized care in a clinical environment of excellence. The HVSL nurse educator covers all areas within the heart and vascular service line, including but not limited to cardiac Cath Lab, EP, angio suites, prep/holding area, cardiac rehab, heart failure, infusion services, and supporting related areas.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Development and implementation of yearly heart and vascular education plans with measurable outcomes.
2. Management of process improvement initiatives.
3. Development and management of orientation and competency programs for staff.
4. Promotion of shared governance and professional practice activities.
5. Providing guidance and resources for professional growth through in-services and educational programs.
6. Serving as a clinical expert in councils, committees, and teams, collaborating on teaching, management, research, and change initiatives.
7. Supporting professional practice education programs, including preceptor classes and practice ladders.
8. Collaborating with clinical staff to manage complex patient cases requiring advanced skills.
9. Participating in needs assessments and developing annual education plans with the Shared Governance Education Council.
Qualifications:
* MSN or MS in a related field, or actively pursuing MSN.
* Registered Nurse license in Virginia.
* BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required.
Experience:
Minimum five years of clinical and cardiac nursing experience.
Additional Certification:
* Multi-state or Virginia-only RN license, with eligibility for licensure in Virginia.
* Specialty certification preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
Expertise in clinical specialty, adult education program development, performance improvement, and outcomes management.
Physical Demands:
20% of the time as Nurse Educator.
