The Opportunity
Leonardo Future Combat Air (FCA) are looking for open minded, collaborative Project Engineering Managers with a breadth ofexperience across the Product Life Cycle to deliver theenabling capabilities that will provide the foundations for the Global Combat AirProgramme (GCAP).
GCAP is an international collaboration between the UK, Japan and Italy developing a 6th generation Future Combat Air platform that will enter service in the mid 2030’s.In the UK, this platform is known as Tempest and will replace the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet.
Leonardo UK plays a leading role in the development and delivery of airborne sensors and communications capabilities for GCAP. Fundamental to delivering these capabilities is the provision of the right tools and facilities, at the right location and at the right time for ourteams to carry out their work. These enabling capabilities fall into the following broad categories
1. Digital Engineering & Digital Thread
2. Data Pipelines/Enablement
3. Supply Chain, Production & Repair
4. Physical Facilities & Digital Infrastructure.

What you will do
Successful delivery of GCAP will only be possible through the creation of an effective tri-national delivery enterprise with a shared sense of identity and purpose. The advertised roles reside at the heart of the enabling activities. You will, in conjunction with other members of the UK GCAP Enablers team, establish an overarching set of development and governance processes that will facilitate coordinated and effective delivery of the Enablers vision and strategic principles agreed with our three domain partner companies - Leonardo SpA and Elettronica Group in Italy, and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) in Japan.
The Enablers Project Engineering Managers will be the focal points for the management of specialist engineering and non-engineering teams delivering GCAP enabling capabilities for Leonardo UK. You will also engage with international partners for the delivery of enabling capabilities across the international domain. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
5. Leading the establishment of UK National domain enablers practices including strategy, policy and process, to support efficient and effective delivery by geographically dispersed teams.
6. Supporting international negotiations to deliver effective and efficient enablers practices across the international domain and ensuringtechnical viability of enabling solutions is preserved.
7. Supporting the creation of commercial agreements, ensuring they support enablers delivery.
8. Providing Engineering input to bids and proposals relating to the Programme.
This role may be based at any of the Leonardo UK major sites and may involve international travel.

15. Proven technical expertise and management on Defence programmes and full knowledge and experience of other related disciplines.
16. Understanding of financial management and impacts on programmes.
17. Experience in a “customer facing” role.
18. Experience of interaction with senior external personnel on significant engineering matters often requiring coordination between organisations.
19. Understand how engineering is delivered by Leonardo UK.
20. Have experience of all lifecycle phases i.e. Development, Manufacture and Support.
