Pre-Construction Director - West Midlands

We now have an opportunity for a Pre-Construction Director to lead one of our regional pods, owning the P&L, the client relationships, and the team that makes our pre-construction function work.
Key Aspects of the Role
* Own the GP £ and revenue targets for your regional pod; manage performance against monthly forecasts with precision.
* Act as Harmony's most senior pre-construction presence in your region, visible to clients, credible in negotiations, and the face of our capability in the market.
* Own a portfolio of key clients, meeting each at least quarterly and building the kind of relationships that drive long-term extraction rates and portfolio growth.
* Ensure every piece of work is routed through the correct workflow pathway and that your pod operates within Harmony's compliance-first framework at all times.
* Review and approve commercial positions within your delegated authority; escalate above threshold to the Head of Pre-Construction with a clear recommendation.
* Build and maintain a high-performing pod team, targeting 70%+ A-player composition through active recruitment, development, and performance management.
* Run quarterly appraisals, coach your Pre-Construction Managers, and manage underperformance proactively.
* Own the quality of every pre-construction handover into delivery. Incomplete PCI packs are a pod failure, not a PCM failure.
* Contribute insights from your region to SLT-level conversations, including client intelligence, market conditions, and delivery patterns.
* Drive process improvement within the pod and escalate with a recommendation, not just a problem.
Key Requirements
* Proven experience leading a pre-construction function or regional business unit within fire, life safety, M&E, or specialist construction.
* Commercially sharp, with a clear understanding of margin, scope creep, and what a good deal looks like, and the ability to hold your team to the same standard.
* A track record of building and managing high-performing teams; you recruit well, develop people, and address underperformance directly.
* Experienced in client ownership at a senior level and comfortable as the most senior presence in the room.
* Strong written and verbal communication; everything goes in writing and you set that standard for your team.
* Process-disciplined, with a clear understanding of why compliance frameworks exist and a commitment to operating within them.
