Tŷ Hafan is a beautiful children's hospice located on the picturesque Vale of Glamorgan coastline. Covering the South, East, and West of Wales Tŷ Hafan offers a beautiful, newly refurbished working environment set in idyllic grounds a short distance from the metropolitan area of Cardiff.

Are you passionate about food, people, and making a real difference? We have an exciting opportunity to join our established catering team as a permanent Chef on a part time basis within the hospice.

This is a part time role of 22.5 hours per week over 3 days, 7.5 hours per day with shifts between 7:00am to 18:00pm. Working hours are daytime only with some weekends but no late nights.

About the role

The Chef is part of a small and personable team responsible for planning and delivering a safe and appropriate meal provision for the children, families, visitors and colleagues of Tŷ Hafan. The role involves liaising with the relevant care services staff in order to ensure that the meal provision meets with the varying needs and nutritional requirements of the children. The Chefs are expected to always act in accordance with the latest Food Hygiene Regulations. This includes ensuring that the kitchen is always kept to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

Our team at Tŷ Hafan are supportive and inclusive, we value individual differences, and understand experience can come from many avenues, therefore it is not essential to have previous experience working in a palliative care environment. Palliative care is defined as the total care of individuals from diagnosis of a life-shortening condition, beyond transition into adult services, or in providing extensive bereavement support. It is important to remember that paediatric palliative care is so much more than just end of life care, Tŷ Hafan holds enhancing quality of life at its very core.

About you

We're looking for a positive, passionate, and customer service focused individual to join our small team as a Chef, delivering nutritious, exciting meals to children and families with a wide range of dietary needs.

You'll be someone who thrives in a busy kitchen environment, bringing compassion, teamwork, and a sense of ownership to everything you do. With a passion for food quality, and basic knowledge of the ranges of dietary considerations, you'll support in delivering both delicious and inclusive food, covering intolerances, cultural and individual health needs.

What you'll bring:

* A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and NVQ Level I in Food Preparation (or equivalent).
* Proven experience working in a hospitality kitchen as a cook or chef.
* Confidence in ordering and managing stock, with a keen eye on rotation and waste reduction.
* Strong knowledge of food hygiene laws and modern cooking techniques.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* (Desirable) Ideally awareness of the IDDSI framework, required in a care setting.

Reporting to the Head Chef, you'll be a key part of our multi-disciplinary team, with a unique opportunity to make a difference to some truly exceptional children and families. No two days will be the same, and your flexibility will help us meet the evolving needs of our service.
