Job overview
The ESTH Pharmacy Team is looking for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician at Epsom Hospital to start immediately.
The role involves assisting in the day-to-day operational management of the dispensaries, including the safe, efficient and timely dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with departmental policy, to meet patient and pharmacy department needs.
Main duties of the job
Main Responsibilities
1. To ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the dispensary in liaison with the Principal Technician, Patient Services.
2. To undertake outpatient, discharge and inpatient dispensing using the Pharmacy Computer System in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
3. To participate in dispensing for clinical trials, completing relevant documentation in accordance with departmental procedures as required.
4. To counsel patients/carers regarding their medication.
5. To supervise daily stock level/expiry checks as per audit requirement and be responsible for making necessary adjustments referring to the Principal Technician, Patient Services, as appropriate.
6. To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of stock control and stock rotation for medicines.
7. To supervise a rolling 3-weekly check of the departmental holding of Controlled Drugs, reporting any discrepancies to the Deputy Chief Pharmacist Operational and Patient Services in line with procedure.
8. To manage/co-ordinate stock ordering/requisitioning from the Pharmacy Store, communicating with pharmacists, pharmacy stores staff and/or ward staff regarding issues with medication as required.
9. To maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area.
10. To maintain Accredited Checking Technician status and perform final accuracy checks of prescriptions in accordance with departmental protocols.

Person specification
General
* Post-qualification hospital experience. Experience in supervision of staff. Computer literate for dispensing and stock keeping. Staff training. Patient/carer counselling. Multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to meet objectives, motivate others, organise workload, manage time, work under pressure, solve problems, and maintain accuracy. Competent in all areas of dispensing practice. Ability to identify and solve problems. Proven organisational skills and customer care. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Accurate numeracy skills.
* Experience with the CMM pharmacy computer system. Knowledge of appraisal, NVQ processes, dispensing/supply of clinical trials and GCP. Understanding of data collection for KPIs and audit.
* Ability to lead a team. Demonstrates initiative. Good IT skills. Assertiveness. Ability to manage change.
Experience
* Experience managing complex projects.
* Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience at a senior level.
