Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist setting in Scunthorpe, supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may struggle in mainstream education and require additional guidance, structure and encouragement to succeed both academically and personally.
The role involves working closely with teaching staff to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them engage with learning, manage their emotions, and develop positive behaviours within a supportive school environment.
This position is ideal for individuals with experience working with young people, particularly those with additional needs, or those looking to develop a career within education, youth work, or SEN support.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
1. Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom and during learning activities
2. Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils engage with lessons
3. Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning and behaviour support strategies
4. Help students develop confidence, emotional regulation and positive behaviour
5. Support pupils who may have additional needs including SEN or learning difficulties
6. Contribute to creating a calm, safe and structured learning environment
7. Build positive relationships with students to support their wellbeing and progress
8. Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support individual student needs
Requirements
To be considered for this role you should:
9. Have experience working with children or young people (education, youth work, care or coaching backgrounds welcome)
10. Have experience supporting students with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs (desirable)
11. Be patient, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour
12. Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
13. Be passionate about supporting young people and making a difference
14. Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
15. Have the legal right to work in the UK
Pay
Competitive daily rate, depending on experience.
