Overview

Beechfield Medical Centre is a well-established GP practice based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. We are looking to appoint several new team members to develop and enhance the services offered to our patients. The ideal candidates will have previous primary care experience; full training will be available for the right candidate. You will need good IT and communication skills, be able to work under your own initiative with minimal supervision, be a good team player, and manage workload proactively while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Clear and effective communication with clinicians, patients and colleagues is essential, and flexibility is required.

To ensure the practice delivers its core functions during opening hours (currently 0800-1830, Monday to Friday), all positions require the ability to work across these times and to cover colleagues as needed at busy times.


Responsibilities

* Have a thorough knowledge of all relevant Practice procedures and work in accordance with written protocols.
* Send practice notes to Healthcare professionals and action responses efficiently and correctly.
* Process appointment requests for today and future appointments by telephone and in person.
* Deal with visit requests in accordance with accepted protocols.
* Receive and advise patients consulting with members of the Practice Team.
* Handle completed repeat prescriptions, check names and addresses, and manage samples (add to triage list if infection; place in box if labelled/bagged).
* Provide new patients with registration forms, advise on completion, and photocopy proof of address and passports.
* Assist patients with mobility or other reasonable needs.
* Have knowledge of the telephone system, including after-hours use.
* Clear waiting room when needed, ensure building security, and understand opening/closing procedures.
* Perform any other tasks allocated by the Practice Management Team.


Work Pattern & Environment

Shift pattern example: Monday off; Tuesday 08:00-18:30; Wednesday 14:00-20:00; Thursday 08:00-18:30; Friday 13:30-18:30. You may be required to work across these times to support the Practice during busy periods.


Confidentiality

Staff may have access to confidential information relating to patients, carers, colleagues and the business. All information is to be treated as strictly confidential and disclosed only to authorized persons in accordance with Practice policies. All employees must sign and adhere to the Practice Confidentiality Policy at induction.


Health & Safety

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy.

* Use personal security systems as required by Practice guidelines.
* Identify risks in work activities and manage them appropriately.
* Utilise training to update knowledge and skills.
* Keep work areas tidy and safe; report potential risks to management.


Personal/Professional Development

The post-holder will participate in training provided by the Practice, including:

* Annual performance review and maintaining a record of personal/professional development.
* Taking responsibility for own development and performance, and sharing knowledge with others.
* Mandatory training required for Beechfield Medical Centre staff.


Quality & Communication

* Maintain quality and raise issues to the team; assess personal performance and accountability.
* Contribute to team effectiveness and work with other agencies to meet patient needs.
* Manage time, workload and resources effectively.
* Communicate clearly with team members, patients and carers; accommodate alternative communication methods as needed.


Infection Control & Audits

* Participate in audits where appropriate, notably the annual Infection Control Audit in collaboration with the Practice Manager and Infection Control Nurse.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential

* Good general secondary education GCSE A-C or equivalent
* Customer service skills
* Experience of working in a busy, multi-functional team

Desirable

* Experience of SystemOne
* Experience of working as a Receptionist within a GP Surgery
* Minimum three years in a customer-facing environment
* Experience of handling confidential information
* Educated to A level standard or equivalent
* Customer Service qualification


Other Details

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a DBS disclosure will be sought where appropriate.
