The Role

To provide support to wards and departments within University Hospital Wishaw to ensure medicines received on the ward follow each patient throughout their hospital stay ensuring a safe and efficient use of pharmacy products at ward level. The post holder will utilise hepma / JAC system non stock reporting to ensure medicines governance at ward level is improved impacting on patient safety with improved stock management

Additional Information Specific to the Role

1. The post holder will work within receiving areas assisting with stock management moving medicines to where they are required.
2. The post holder will utilise hepma to ensure non-stock medicines are ordered and supplied promptly liaising with ward, technical staff, clinical technicians and pharmacists.
3. The post holder will be required to speak to patients on admission to ensure Patients Own Medicines / compliance aids are brought in from home to assist with medicines reconciliation and avoid duplication or missed doses.
4. The post holder will be required to interact with a variety of healthcare professionals at ward level, and as such is expected to have excellent communication skills as they will often liaise between the wards and the pharmacy department.
5. The post holder will ensure any non-stock medication is promptly returned to the pharmacy
6. The post holder may be required to cover for other Senior ATO during periods of leave.

What we'll need you to bring

7. Scottish Vocational Qualification Level II
8. Previous experience as an assistant technical officer/dispenser
9. Ability to work under pressure.
10. Able to plan, prioritise and organise workload
11. Able to work under their own initiative and as part of a team.
12. Commitment to CPD
13. Good verbal and written communication skills
14. Self motivation
15. Good interpersonal skills
16. Demonstrate customer awareness/focus.
17. Weekends and public holidays
18. Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department.
19. Experience in hospital practice is desirable

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

20. Experience in hospital practice is desirable
21. Experience of working in hospital or community pharmacy
22. Understanding of hospital pharmacy services
23. Computer skills/key board skills
