The Role
We are seeking a Business Development Director for the midstream, upstream and offshore energy markets, to help shape our aggressive growth ambitions across the EMEA region
Wood is a world leader in these markets and are delivering major projects now in these sectors, embedding decarbonisation and digitalisation within the core design and delivery.
This is a senior, very high-profile position and pivotal to Wood’s global success and will most suit an individual who is self-driven and able to work in a dynamic and fast-moving environment, with an ability to communicate and present to all levels of the business.
You will join our Europe and Africa Growth and Development team and become a key member of the UK Projects management as a focal point for Business Development, identifying and assessing new business opportunities for our UK Centres of Excellence of project delivery, located in Reading and Staines, where we provide world-class engineering and delivery of complex, mega-scale projects across EMEA.
These centres have more than a thousand highly skilled, multi-discipline engineering professionals, in all aspects of engineering design and project management, with specialists in every discipline.
The successful applicant will help enhance Wood’s existing client relationships and build new ones, providing market insight to support our growth strategy, ensuring we focus our business acquisition efforts to maximise market share.
You will leverage expertise from different parts of the business to market our world class capabilities to clients across EMEA and will include connecting capability within Wood across the globe and naturally will involve some travel, primarily within UK and EMEA.
Primary focus will be upon the development and management of our prospect and client portfolio for large scale pre-FEED’s, FEED’s, Detail Design, EPCM/EPC and PMC projects in New Energy and Oil and Gas markets:
1. Green Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage projects
2. Greenfield/ brownfield offshore field developments
3. Hydrocarbon reception terminals and processing
4. LNG, NGL and GTL facilities
5. Decarbonisation of existing assets including electrification
6. HVDC convertor platforms
Responsibilities are to ensure Wood is best positioned to nurture new/existing client relationships and include;
7. Define and deliver effective strategies to secure new business
8. Provide intelligence and insight into market conditions, competitors, relationship status and collaboration opportunities
9. Identify new leads early and present to the business with recommendations for pursuit strategy
10. Define new market entry requirements and win propositions, developing a clear route map to successful pre-qualification and bid submissions and communicate clearly to pursuit and proposal teams to sharpen our value proposition within proposals.
11. Support execution strategies with intelligence on customer needs and drivers to enhance the success of business winning
12. Develop, maintain and broaden good business relationship with existing and prospective clients
13. Develop clear and concise Win Plans, identifying win themes, differentiators and commercial insight

Expected skills and experience
21. Candidate will have worked within an engineering contractors upstream organisation in a senior or management role with experience in a business development environment
22. A sound technical knowledge of offshore New Energy and Hydrocarbon facilities, Hydrogen, CCS, in a large project delivery environment, from concept through to construction
23. Experience in a commercial/proposals development role would be very advantageous
24. Communicates effectively to build collaboration and influence stakeholders
25. Thinks strategically to support business planning to meet company strategic goals and objectives
Qualifications:
26. Degree qualified in an engineering subject or equivalent preferred, Process or Chemical engineering desirable
27. Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools, Word/Excel/PowerPoint, required
Minimum Experience:
28. Extensive experience with good experience in a senior or client facing role
