About the role
* Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Acting as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, covering all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
* Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
* Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
* Building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
* Investigating incidents and accidents thoroughly, escalating as needed, and liaising with emergency services and media when appropriate.

About you
* At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
* Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental Risk qualifications
* Extensive Accident Investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to influence at senior levels
* Valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
