Offer description

Background At Nicholas O'Dwyer, sustainability is at the core of our work. If you are looking to advance your career in a socially responsible company, which has a proven track record over 90 years, and is committed to creating a sustainable planet, we invite you to be part of our team. Our mission is to provide innovative and reliable solutions using cutting edge technology and expertise, to ensure project success and employee satisfaction. We deliver infrastructure projects in water, wastewater, transportation, civil and structural engineering, flood protection, and energy including renewables. With headquarters in Ireland, we also operate in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As part of the RSK Group, an amalgamation of over 200 companies with more than 17,000 employees, we benefit from a global network of opportunities while retaining our brand and autonomy. Project Overview This project forms part of the Healthy Oceans and Water Security Improvement Project (HOWSIP), a major infrastructure programme being delivered by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to modernise urban water and wastewater systems, improve service reliability, and enhance environmental resilience. The works are primarily located in the Greater Suva Area, including the Suva–Nausori Water Supply System in the Central Region of Viti Levu, the Kinoya Wastewater Treatment Plant in Nasinu, and a proposed Water Academy in Lautoka in the Western Division. The Design Review, Construction Supervision and Contract Administration (CS02) assignment will provide technical oversight and contract management support to ensure infrastructure works are delivered on schedule and in compliance with approved designs, specifications, and project requirements. The role includes supervision of works, design review, quality assurance, and coordination with key stakeholders. We are currently seeking a highly experienced Site Works Inspector (Mechanical) with at least 5 years’ experience in the installation and commissioning of heavy mechanical plant and equipment. The ideal candidate will bring proven expertise in overseeing the assembly of pumps, valves, and treatment mechanisms within wastewater facilities. We are seeking a field expert who can ensure that all mechanical components meet the project’s rigorous technical specifications while maintaining the highest levels of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and quality control on-site. Main Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the on-site installation of mechanical plant, pumps, and equipment (specifically at the Kinoya WWTP) to ensure full compliance with the Employer’s Requirements. Verify that all mechanical materials and equipment delivered to the site meet the required technical specifications and durability plans. Monitor and ensure strict adherence to OHS standards during heavy lifting, equipment positioning, and mechanical installation processes. Supervise mechanical testing on-site, including pressure tests and preliminary equipment runs, ensuring Quality Assurance (QA) protocols are strictly followed. Provide daily reports on the progress of mechanical works vis-à-vis the contractor’s schedule and report any deviations or quality issues. Review and certify “as-built” mechanical drawings submitted by the contractor to ensure they reflect the actual site installation accurately. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the construction or quality assurance of mechanical components within water and wastewater infrastructure. Proven expertise in monitoring OHS standards during mechanical installations and equipment commissioning is essential. Extensive knowledge of mechanical plant operations, piping systems, and technical specifications for treatment facilities. Ability to work independently and maintain high self-standards in a challenging field environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team. Strong communication skills in English; ability to maintain clear site records and prepare accurate daily/weekly progress reports. An agile and “Can-Do” mindset, with the motivation to build lasting capacity and improve the quality of life for local communities.
