Job Title: Secondary Engineer - Protection & Control Design Location: Stafford (2-3 days per week in the office) Contract Type: Inside IR35 Frameworks: National Grid, SSE, SPEN, UKPN Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Secondary Engineer with a strong background in Protection and Control Design to support ongoing and upcoming projects within major UK transmission and distribution frameworks. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality design solutions across National Grid, SSE, SPEN, and UKPN frameworks. This is a hybrid role based in Stafford, requiring on-site presence 2-3 days per week. Key Responsibilities: Develop and review protection and control designs for HV substations and transmission networks. Produce detailed secondary engineering drawings including protection schematics, control wiring diagrams, and interlocking schemes. Ensure designs comply with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with primary design engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless integration of secondary systems. Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing phases. Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Ideal Candidate Profile: Proven experience in Protection & Control Design within the UK power sector. Hands-on experience working on National Grid, SSE, SPEN, or UKPN frameworks. Strong understanding of substation secondary systems including protection relays, SCADA, and control systems. Proficient in using design tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
