Overview
Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit. You will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build understanding of Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. Location is flexible with travel to Birmingham and other offices as required.
You will also respond to incidents as part of your role, with training and additional remuneration potential. The team manages criminal intelligence and works with partners to drive an intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime.
Responsibilities
* Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex; improve the quality of intelligence submissions.
* Deliver face‑to‑face training on MEMEX and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
* Supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions; create entities from Memex submissions.
* Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve performance; maintain high standards of intelligence submissions.
* Support area teams by enabling intelligence‑led approaches across teams and advocating for consistent MEMEX use; ensure safety checks are mandatory.
* Respond to incidents as required, with potential additional payment and training; arrange alternative working patterns to support the incident role.
* Contribute to the Intelligence Team’s work in managing and developing criminal intelligence, building strong partner relationships, and driving outcomes that meet customers’ needs.
* Undertake other duties commensurate with the role as required.
Qualifications / Experience
* Good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
* Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
* Excellent influencing skills; ensure Memex use is standard and safety checks are mandatory.
* Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
* Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective, and inclusive training.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback on intelligence submission performance.
* Strong self‑management and organisational skills; good teamwork to support colleagues in achieving goals.
Additional Information
* You will need to be comfortable working in a dispersed team; location is flexible with a mix of home and office working. Travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required occasionally.
* Interviews via Microsoft Teams, expected in October.
