Location: Yorkshire Dales, Estate Office, Settle, BD24 9PT
Contract Type: Permanent / Full-time
Reference/IRC: IRC163587
Closing Date: 25th May 2025
Salary: £26,793 pa
Working in the Yorkshire Dales’ most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are properly managed and beautifully presented.
It’s a particularly exciting time for nature in the Dales as we work with tenants, neighbouring landowners and a dedicated project team to develop proposals for a major DEFRA-funded Landscape Recovery Scheme across much of our landholding and beyond.
What it's like
The National Trust is at the forefront of conservation in the Yorkshire Dales – managing its land through a dedicated team, to the highest standards for nature, access and wider public benefits. Working closely with tenant farmers and partners, the Countryside Team includes Rangers and specialist staff centred around two separate bases in Malhamdale and Upper Wharfedale – with your focus in Upper Wharfedale.
You’ll report to the Countryside Manager and lead our Ranger team, managing land from Kettlewell to Cray and Wensleydale to Richmond. This is a huge and remote area comprising largely moorland and woodland habitats.
What you'll be doing
You’ll lead the day-to-day delivery of operations across the Upper Wharfedale estate and build and manage work programmes. You’ll support your team in undertaking engagement, maintenance and conservation work. You’ll develop and deliver small projects and plan for the use of volunteers to increase our capacity, working safely and effectively.
You’ll work closely with the Heart of the Dales Landscape Recovery team to provide skills, local knowledge and expertise in delivering for major nature and landscape conservation outcomes projected over the coming years.
Working with others, you’ll share your work to a wide range of audiences, ensuring special places like these are both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever.
