We are looking for a Policy Analyst, European Union and Northern Ireland to join our Committee Office at the House of Lords. This is a position where you will be working for the Northern Ireland Scrutiny Committee, comprising members from different political parties and the Crossbenches, representing a range of views on Brexit, on the Windsor Framework and on Northern Irelands constitutional status. The remit of the Committee is to consider matters related to the implementation of the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland and the Windsor Framework, including scrutiny of relevant EU and UK legislation and relevant work of governance bodies; and conducting inter-parliamentary dialogue. You will be leading high-quality research and analysis in this policy area, as well as delivering written and verbal briefings and organising evidence sessions with multiple stakeholders. This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis - you will be able to work up to 3 days from home (dependent on business needs) and a minimum of 2 days on-site in Parliament.This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a keen interest and prior experience within this policy area and enjoys working in a fast paced, dynamic working environment. Youll be accountable for Supporting the Northern Ireland Scrutiny Committee in relation to its work on the Windsor Framework. Suggesting and researching topics to be investigated by the committee and writing scoping notes. Identifying and contacting prospective oral evidence witnesses, and preparing possible questions that members might put to them. Drafting background briefing on key issues. Analysing and summarising evidence submitted to the committee. Attending committee meetings and briefing the chair and members of the committee orally. What were looking for 2:1 undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification, or at least two years of professional policy-based experience. Personal effectiveness with a high degree of knowledge and experience of European and Northern Irish politics, including Brexit, the Windsor Framework, and the political situation in Northern Ireland and the ability to become proficient in new topics quickly. Excellent written and oral communication skills Political judgement including the understanding of the sensitive political context of the committees work and wider public policy debates. Personal effectiveness with the flexibility and resilience to produce high quality work to tight and competing deadlines, showing initiative where appropriate.
