The role
We are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our welcoming and collaborative Finance & Legal Services Directorate. Based at our, with the option for agile working, you will report to the Head of Management Accounts and play a valuable role in supporting the financial health of our Faculties and Directorates.
In this role, you will help prepare financial reports, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis, ensuring colleagues have clear, timely and reliable information to support decision‑making. You’ll work closely with Budget Holders and senior leaders across the University, becoming a trusted source of insight and guidance.
You will also help colleagues understand and use our financial systems, promote good practice, and support the effective application of University Financial Regulations. Your work will contribute directly to strong financial planning, informed choices and the smooth running of key financial processes across the academic year.
About the team
You will be joining a friendly, professional and supportive team within the Finance & Legal Services Directorate — a central service that plays a vital role in enabling the University to deliver its strategic aims.
The Management Accounts Team partners closely with Budget Holders, senior leaders and departments across the University. Together, we provide meaningful analysis, financial insight and operational support to help ensure resources are used effectively and sustainably.

What will I be doing?
* Assisting in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis for Faculties and Directorates.
* Ensuring financial information is accurate, reliable and delivered on time.
* Supporting colleagues in their use of financial systems and helping them understand financial processes.
* Interpreting financial data and presenting information in a clear, accessible and supportive way.
* Monitoring financial performance and identifying trends, issues or opportunities.
* Contributing to key financial processes throughout the year, including month‑end and year‑end activities.
* Helping to develop training, guidance and support materials for colleagues involved in financial procedures.
* Supporting financial projects, process improvements and other initiatives within the Management Accounts Team.
What skills do I need?
* Strong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
* Experience working in a finance or management accounting environment.
* Confidence explaining financial information to colleagues who may not have a finance background.
* Skilled in using financial systems and Microsoft Excel to interpret and present data.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
* A positive communicator with a strong customer‑service approach.
* Professional, reliable and able to manage sensitive information with discretion.
