Hours of work: Full time days, sleep shifts and wake nights

Driver: Full UK -manual driver’s licence

About the role

Reuben is a 25-year-old man who has been diagnosed with Autism, learning disabilities and epilepsy.

While he has limited verbal communication, he has a great sense of humour and infectious smile and enjoys meeting and interacting with different people.

Reuben has many interests and hobbies such as bike rides, long walks in countryside areas and visiting the beach, he especially loves to play in the water when he goes swimming.

He really enjoys using sensory items such as his ripping boxes & using multi-sensory rooms.

Reuben enjoys watching cooking programs and having meals out in restaurants.

He loves intensive interaction when he feels safe, happy, and content and he will be affectionate with familiar team members, hold hands or faces, lean against his team members when out on walks etc. However this has to be on his own terms, and he will initiate this with you.

It is important for Reuben to be supported by confident, happy, fun, smiley individuals that can set clear boundaries so that he feels safe and can build trust. He needs team members who are energetic, physically fit and who not afraid to have fun or to be silly.

Transitions can be difficult for Reuben, and he uses a visual schedule to support his day and so he knows what is happening.

Reuben is looking for Team Members with experience of Autism and Learning Disabilities are required and whilst experience of epilepsy and managing seizures is desirable, full training will be provided.

PBS4 is a values led social care organisation, providing Neurodisability Services to individuals with Learning Disabilities, Autism and/or behaviours that may challenge. We support people living in their own homes, with their own tenancies, and we utilise Positive Behaviour Support as the framework for the support we provide.

We are a medium-sized organisation supporting people across Hampshire, Dorset, Berkshire, Somerset, and Oxfordshire and with a workforce of around 350 employees and rapidly growing.

PBS4 provides support to enable people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour to have independent lives and to live in their own home. Our approach is underpinned by Positive Behaviour Support. Positive Behaviour Support is an approach mostly used to support people with learning disabilities whose behaviours challenge others. The goal is to shift the focus away from reducing challenging behaviour to understanding what that behaviour means and supporting people to get what they need better.
