Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part-time and full-time opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide the first point of contact for patients and visitors to the practice in a professional manner.
* Handle requests for appointments in line with practice protocol to ensure the efficient running of the practice appointment system.
* Handle home visit requests in line with practice protocol.
* Handle patient queries and enquiries efficiently, both face to face and on the telephone.
* Record and communicate messages for other members of the Practice Team and other agencies accurately and without delay.
* Be the main contact point for non-clinical medication-related queries from pharmacies, nursing homes, and other health care professionals, to improve the accuracy of patient medication records.
* Deal with and process requests for repeat prescriptions in an accurate and efficient manner.
* Hand out prescriptions to patients or their representatives whilst adhering to confidentiality and data protection regulations, for regular and controlled medications.
* Develop skills whilst training and qualifying as a Practice Medicines Coordinator (PMC) and contribute to medicines management targets.
* Respond to requests for test results from patients and provide results where authorised, adhering to confidentiality guidelines.
* Maintain accurate computerised patient records, register new patients, amend registration details, and input clinical data in line with practice protocol.
* Develop own role and skills in Care Navigation, signposting to sources of help, advocacy and support, and help patients manage their health.
* Process clinical documents, code actions, and distribute as necessary; complete referral letters and send to appropriate services.
* Summarise new patient records and complete medical reports using the IGPR system.
* Prepare premises for surgery, maintain a welcoming environment, and ensure cleanliness and order in consulting rooms and public areas.
* Liaise with third party practitioners such as District Nurses, AVS and Ambulance Services; advise patients of charges for non-GMS services where applicable.
* Cover Extended Access openings and additional clinics, and act as premises key holder when required.
* Undertake required training and perform duties as deemed part of the receptionist role in a general practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: GCSE English & Maths. Desirable: NVQ Health & Social.
Experience
Essential: Customer Service; Good telephone manner; Works as part of a team. Desirable: Experience of working in a GP Practice.
