Position Title: Mechanical Technician Department: Maintenance
Primary location: Unit 14 Kings Close, Canvey Island, Essex, SS8 0QZ
Secondary location: Various client sites (travel required to support the needs of the business)
Status: Full-Time
Purpose of the Role
The Mechanical Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient maintenance, repair and reliability of mechanical equipment at Luma Engineering’s client facilities. This position is responsible for performing hands-on technical work. The Mechanical Technician will apply expertise in mechanical engineering to maintain a range of rotating equipment and mechanical systems, adhering to safety standards, and contributing to the overall success of projects and operations.
Key Accountabilities
1. Maintenance and Repair
o Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on mechanical equipment, including pumps, blowers, compressors, valves, and other related systems.
o Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues in a timely and efficient manner to minimize repair times.
o Record all maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications in accordance with company procedures.
2. Installation and Commissioning
o Assist with the installation, alignment, and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
o Ensure compliance with design specifications, technical documentation, and safety requirements during installations.
3. Safety and Compliance
o Ensure all activities comply with Luma Engineering’s safety policies, industry regulations, and client-specific requirements.
o Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety audits as required.
o Report and address safety concerns promptly and appropriately.
4. Collaboration and Reporting
o Work collaboratively with other technicians, engineers, apprentices and project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
o Communicate technical findings and recommendations to supervisors and project stakeholders.
o Provide mentorship and support to junior team members where required.

Required Qualifications and Competencies
• Education and Certifications:
o NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, or a related field.
o Additional certifications in rotating equipment and machining are advantageous. ONC/HNC or equivalent.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance roles within the petrochemical, power, or heavy industrial sectors.
o Hands-on experience with rotating and static equipment, such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and piping systems.
• Skills:
o Proficiency with hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment.
o Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, designs, and schematics.
o Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
o Effective communication and teamwork skills.
o Ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work within tight deadlines.
o Flexible and responsive to changes in operational requirements and unexpected challenges.
• Physical Requirements:
o Capability to lift, carry, and manoeuvre tools and equipment as needed.
o Comfortable working in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces, heights, and extreme temperatures.
• Other Requirements:
o Full UK Driver’s license.
o Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces, heights, and extreme temperatures.
o Availability for shift work, on-call duties, and overtime when required.
o Willingness and ability to work away from home for short periods of time as required.
