The Role:
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an effective and efficient waste collection service whilst ensuring maximum customer satisfaction.
Hours of work: 37 hours per week
Requirements:
1. As a front-line service provider, maintain a positive image of the Council by ensuring that personal appearance and conduct is of a high standard at all times
2. Remove wheeled refuse containers from collection point, empty, and return to a safe collection point which does not block access for the public or householders.
3. Exercise discretion with regard to whether waste bins should be accepted or rejected for emptying, based upon assessment of level of compliance with Council waste management schemes
4. Operate mechanical lifting equipment at rear of vehicle
5. Collect additional waste such as bags and boxes on days scheduled as 'double lift' days
6. Clear up any accidental spillages associated with emptying of bins.
7. While emptying litter bins, clean up any light littering in the vicinity and report more significant and widespread incidents of littering in the area to the team leader
8. Provide assistance with the lifting of wheelie bins in designated cases where this has been approved, in accordance with Council policy and procedures
9. Assist the team leader when necessary to reverse/manoeuvre the vehicle
10. Work as part of a team to ensure the completion of allocated daily schedules.
Essential Requirements
11. Six months' experience in each of the following areas:
12. General labouring in an outdoors environment or refuse collection;
13. Dealing with the public in a customer service capacity;
14. Operating mechanical lifting equipment.
