Head of Private Client – Birmingham
Overview
A leading, well-established regional law firm is seeking an experienced Head of Private Client to lead and develop its highly regarded Private Client department in Birmingham.
This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a growing practice, shape strategy, and drive continued expansion across wills, trusts, probate, and high-value estate planning work.
The Role
As Head of Private Client, you will take responsibility for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the department. You will manage a high-quality caseload while also playing a key role in business development and team leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the Private Client department and setting strategic direction
* Managing a varied caseload including complex wills, trusts, probate, estate administration, and tax planning matters
* Advising high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and families on succession and wealth protection
* Driving business development initiatives and strengthening existing client relationships
* Building relationships with key referrers including accountants, financial advisers, and wealth managers
* Managing, mentoring, and developing junior lawyers and support staff
* Supporting cross-departmental collaboration with corporate, property, and family teams
* Ensuring high standards of technical quality, compliance, and client service
* Contributing to the overall growth and profitability of the wider firm
About You
The ideal candidate will be:
* A qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent) with significant Private Client experience
* Likely at Partner level, or a Senior Associate ready for a step up into leadership
* Technically strong across wills, trusts, probate, and tax planning
* Experienced in advising high-net-worth and complex estate clients
* Commercially minded with a track record of business development
* A confident leader who enjoys developing and growing a team
* Strong communicator with excellent client relationship skills
