Healthcare Support Worker Biomedical Support Worker

About the Organisation:
In June 2025, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care introduced two key frameworks: the Population Health Framework and the Service Renewal Framework (SRF). The SRF sets out an ambitious vision to drive innovation and enable more integrated delivery across Scotland’s health and care services. As part of this transformation, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) will come together to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland in April 2026. The new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland. The Post:
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service are currently looking for a reliable and confident person with excellent communication skills to join our clinical laboratory team. You will be trained to carry out a range of general duties to provide vital support for the Biomedical Scientist staff in our Clinical Laboratory. These duties include patient data input, handling telephone calls, blood component issue, cleaning and the transport of blood components across the NHS Grampian region.

The Candidate:
The successful candidate should have a flexible approach to work. No relevant experience is required as full training will be given however excellent data inputting skills and fluency in the English language are essential. Applicants must also hold a full UK manual driving licence.

In the Blood Bank a 24/7 shift roster is in operation and permanent post holders must participate. Agenda for Change remuneration rates for shift working apply.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern:
The post is based at Aberdeen Blood Donor Centre on the Foresterhill site.

Shift pattern is rotational from Monday to Sunday, 37 hours per week as part of a 24/7 shift.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
