Salary: £25,497.64 - £26,909.21 actual salary, based on experience and qualifications

Hours: 40 hours per week – Term time only

Aurora Hedgeway is a dynamic and inspiring provision for children and young people aged 7-19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.

We are currently looking for a Level 3 Pastoral Assistant. The school supports young people aged 7 - 19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.

We offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/ Functional Skills/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.

The role:

You will work as part of the pastoral team, supporting the Behaviour Lead, teaching staff, and wider professionals to meet the needs of students aged 7–19 who may experience social communication challenges, anxiety, or barriers to learning.

This is a proactive, student-facing role where you will contribute to positive behaviour approaches while focusing on pastoral care and wellbeing. You will provide 1:1 check-ins, targeted support, and wellbeing interventions, helping students to engage with both the academic and social aspects of school life.

You will also play a key role in supporting students during unstructured times, responding to incidents, and helping to re-engage students back into learning.

Key Duties:

Provide 1:1 wellbeing support and regular check-ins for targeted students, delivering interventions to support engagement and resilience

Support the implementation and review of positive behaviour support plans (PBS), risk assessments, and pastoral strategies

Work closely with the Behaviour Lead and wider team to promote the school's ethos, values, and Positive Behaviour Policy

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records relating to student wellbeing, behaviour, and safeguarding, ensuring all concerns are logged appropriately

Respond effectively to safeguarding concerns and challenging situations, providing immediate support and appropriate de-escalation

Monitor and track students who are out of class, ensuring appropriate interventions and support are in place to re-engage them in learning

Deliver targeted wellbeing sessions and support programmes, including contributing to initiatives such as the Peer Mentoring Programme

Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and external professionals, supporting communication and collaborative pastoral care

Experience & Qualifications:

Successful candidate are likely to demonstrate the following:

A relevant professional qualification, or the ability to attain a Level 3 qualification in working with children and young people.

Level 3 qualification in working with children and young people or working towards the Level 3 Qualification.

Qualifications in behavioural approaches or psychology are desirable.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with children with autism/SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).

Sound understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection protocols.

Experience applying various strategies for managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours.
