You will manage BT Group’s policy and public affairs work with a focus on economic policy. This includes policy debates around pricing and affordability, future regulation, and presenting BT’s broader economic impact case. You will support colleagues with macro- and micro-economic analysis and advocacy, building alliances across industry, associations, and within BT. Your goal is to develop a positive image of the company and build economic arguments to help BT Group achieve its goals.
Doing this well will enhance BT’s reputation and relevance, while advancing its commercial interests and business objectives, creating value for the company.
What you’ll be doing
* Lead policy development, shaping BT’s positions and contributing to its thought-leadership, leading virtual teams across various units.
* Act as an ambassador for BT’s interests, engaging with political stakeholders through consultation responses, briefing notes, and presentations, managing direct engagement with stakeholders in Whitehall, Westminster, and beyond.
* Manage BT Group’s engagement with UK political stakeholders, planning for announcements, events, campaigns, and managing partner relations to succeed; engaging with trade bodies, influencers, and think tanks; managing UK political strategy across teams.
* Be responsible for policy and political horizon-scanning, ensuring preparedness for opportunities and issues related to economic policy and customer issues like pricing and regulation.
* Provide expert support and advice, responding quickly to political developments and changing priorities from key stakeholders.
* Support the wider work of the Markets & Customers team, including innovation, public sector, digital inclusion, and online safety initiatives.
The skills you'll need
* Policy analysis and decision-making, understanding complex policy and technical issues, especially in economic and commercial areas.
* Political strategy, including tactical campaign planning.
* Communication and public advocacy, engaging in public debate as an ambassador for BT.
* Influencing and negotiating, building networks within the company, industry, and political spheres.
* Business development, leveraging political networks to develop strategies and opportunities.
