School of Aeronautical Automotive Chemical and Materials Engineering The researcher will join the flagship European research consortium PHARMECO, which aims to develop practical tools and frameworks for the next generation of sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies. The primary objectiveof this position is to develop Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) synthetic routes and manufacturing processes for both small and large active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), including peptides and oligonucleotides. The researcher will leveragestate-of-the-artcomputer-assisted retrosynthesis tools, artificial intelligence, and advanced process simulation technologies to design, optimize, and rank total synthetic routes. They will also develop systematic decision-making frameworks to evaluate and compare alternative routes based onmultiplecompeting criteria, such as environmental footprint, cost, and regulatory compliance. Furthermore, the researcher will generate process and inventory data to support prospective life cycle assessments (LCA) and contribute to early-stage experimentation and simulation activities.
