Job Summary
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Consultant to join the Acute Medicine team. The role includes 7‑day cover with out‑of‑hours commitments and supports patients from the Acute Medical Unit, Acute Assessment Unit, Same‑Day Emergency Care Unit and Virtual Wards.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct input into the care of patients referred to Acute Medicine from GPs and Emergency Departments.
* Emphasise maximal ambulatory management to reduce time spent by patients in acute beds.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary teams and lead the coordination of patient care.
* Teach, train and supervise medical students and postgraduate doctors in training.
* Ensure continuous patient care commitments and organise leave and off‑duty periods.
* Maintain high professional standards of clinical care and continue professional development.
* Develop close links with General Practitioners, primary care colleagues and community services.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* MRCP.
* Completed CCT in Acute Medicine, or entry on the Specialist Register within 6 months.
Desirable
* Specialty certificate exam in Acute Medicine (MRCP Acute Medicine).
Experience
Essential
* Wide experience in Acute Medicine and General Medicine.
* Experience in an Acute Medicine Unit/SDEC.
* Experience in medical education.
Desirable
* Trained Clinical & Educational Supervisor.
Working Pattern
Full‑time, Permanent contract. 7‑day roster covering out‑of‑hours.
Salary
£113,565 to £150,569 per annum.
