Service Manager – Workshop & Field Operations

We’re supporting a long‑established engineering business in the Andover area as they look to appoint a Service Manager to lead a busy service department. This is a key leadership role, responsible for managing a team of around ten technicians and ensuring the smooth, efficient delivery of service, maintenance and repair work across a mixed range of machinery and equipment.
While this isn’t a hands‑on engineering role, you’ll be someone who’s comfortable being close to the workshop floor, supporting your team, and building strong relationships with customers.
What you’ll be doing
* Overseeing the day‑to‑day operation of a busy service department, ensuring resources, workshop facilities and equipment are used efficiently and productively.
* Managing costs, driving performance KPIs, and ensuring commercial targets are met.
* Leading, motivating and developing a skilled team of technicians, creating a positive, collaborative working culture.
* Building and maintaining strong customer relationships, ensuring service quality and repeat business.
* Supporting continuous improvement across service delivery, processes and customer experience.
What we’re looking for
* Proven experience managing a service workshop in plant, HGV, commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, ground care, construction equipment, forklifts, or similar sectors.
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to understand financial performance, drive KPIs and manage departmental budgets.
* A confident leader who can support, develop and motivate a team.
* Customer‑focused, organised, and able to keep a busy operation running smoothly.
* Someone who enjoys being involved, visible and hands‑on in the day‑to‑day running of a service department.
