About The Role We are seeking a Geologist / Geo-Environmental Engineer / Geotechnical Engineer to join our experienced team in the Midlands. We welcome applications from candidates with a broad range of experience levels, from intermediate professionals (2 years) through to very experienced senior engineers, as we believe in investing time in people at the speed they need to develop. Your role will include a mixture of site and office-based work as part of a team delivering the full ground investigation and consulting requirements of our clients. Our experienced geological team members will offer mentoring and tailor your training and development to achieve your personal goals, providing the specific support you need to reach your potential. Key Responsibilities Examine and cross-check geological logging, field testing and field mapping records Plan detailed field investigations by drilling and analysing samples of deposits/bedrock Supervise site and ground investigations and visit new project sites Make recommendations on the proposed use of sites and provide technical information Advise on problems such as subsidence, coal mining and contamination Deliver quality geological logs/records and overall geological reports Provide technical guidance to junior geologists and reporting staff Promote Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) to staff Manage staff, including other engineering geologists, consultants and contractors (senior level) Provide quotes to clients and attend professional conferences (senior level) Skills, Knowledge & Expertise Essential Requirements Bachelor's degree or above in Geology, Earth Science, Geoscience or equivalent from a UK university Minimum 2 years experience in ground investigation focusing on geological reporting and logging Self-motivated individual contributor and good team player with excellent communication skills Good project management skills Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and geotechnical software (e.g. Openground, HoleBase) Full UK driving licence (manual transmission) Passion for the subject and geology For Senior Level Minimum 6 years experience preferred Working towards or having already gained chartership Ability to train and support junior staff Experience managing small teams of engineers Salary and Benefits We offer a competitive salary dependent on experience and provide a comprehensive range of benefits including: 31 days holiday inclusive of all bank holidays and Christmas shutdown Regular reviews/appraisals with salary progression as you become more experienced Hybrid working arrangements balancing office, home and site work Company pension scheme Access to company vehicles for work use Laptop, mobile phone, GIP branded workwear and all PPE provided Professional fees covered (e.g. FGS) Internal and external training provision £1,000 bonus on attaining chartership The majority of our geologists started as graduates at GIP - we have a proven history of developing our engineers and providing opportunities to move up the career ladder.
