As a charity driven by purpose, not profit, we’re looking for a skilled Financial Controller to play a key role in ensuring strong financial management, accurate reporting, and effective controls that support our mission. What you'll do: Lead the timely and accurate month-end and year-end closure of accounts. Present monthly performance reports to the Head of Finance, working with the Senior Finance Business Partner. Collate statutory accounts and management information, and coordinate external and internal audits. Ensure compliance with Charity SORP, UK GAAP, Charity Commission, HMRC, and VAT requirements. Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures. Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and credit control. Manage cashflow, working capital, and treasury activities. Maintain the Delegation of Authority framework and monitor compliance. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes. Lead and support members of the finance team, ensuring effective cross-cover. Recommend system improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting. Identify and mitigate financial risks and maintain robust governance practices What you'll bring: Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent). Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally in the charity or not-for-profit sector. Strong technical knowledge of charity accounting standards and compliance. Experience in statutory accounts preparation, audits, budgeting, and cashflow management. Proven ability to manage payroll and financial operations. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience leading teams and supporting staff development. High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive, collaborative approach. Desirable: Experience with NHS or public sector pension schemes. Knowledge of the mental health or wider health and social care sector. Familiarity with Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks.
