Overview
Join to apply for the Production Chef role at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This role is based in the Central Production Kitchen within the hospital, preparing and cooking patient meals. The successful candidate will be passionate about food, enthusiastic, personable, creative, organised and flexible.
Responsibilities
* Provide quality meals to the required standard and maintain hygiene in the kitchen and related areas, completing all daily documentation.
* Ensure food production complies with HACCP and food safety guidelines and that records are accurate.
* Assist the Production Manager with innovation and menu development using available catering equipment.
* Work 5 out of 7 days a week, including weekends.
* Prepare and cook patient meals to a high standard under the direction of the Production Manager, ensuring compliance with the Department’s Food Safety and Hygiene Procedures and Trust cleanliness and food safety standards.
* Demonstrate awareness of the Food Safety Act and operate to high standards of quality and hygiene; use and clean machinery, materials, equipment and PPE safely and effectively.
* Maintain clean and hygienic food production areas, ancillary rooms, fridges and general catering equipment throughout production, cooking and service.
* Contribute to menu planning and recipe development; actively work to minimise food waste and record all waste.
* Wear protective clothing in line with policy and follow safe lifting and handling practices.
* Complete required paperwork to monitor and maintain standards; report shortfalls in the Food Safety and Hygiene Manual Standards as needed.
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience as a Chef with a passion for food and a flair for innovation and different styles of cuisine.
* Ability to work flexibly, across shifts, and to operate within HACCP and food safety guidelines.
* Awareness of the Food Safety Act and high standards of quality and hygiene.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and to follow procedures.
About the role and organisation
Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is part of a collaborative group with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, now known as University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN). There may be a requirement to work across both Kettering and Northampton hospital sites depending on service needs.
