Overview
Responsible for providing holistic women centred midwifery care. To support the Senior Midwives in the execution of their role. Promote and maintain professional standards ensuring midwifery practice is evidence based. Promote midwife led care in partnership with other health professionals. Provide effective input into the work of the Trust, to support the achievement of our vision and values. To be responsible for the maintenance and development of her own clinical skills and maintain PREP requirements, including attendance at Trust mandatory training. Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is part of a collaborative approach with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and has become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN). As part of this approach, there may be a requirement to work across both Kettering and Northampton hospital sites, depending on service needs.

Responsibilities
* Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Observe and apply the NMC Code of Conduct in patient/client care.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care; ensure clinical practice is effective and evidence based.
* Undertake relevant clinical practices in accordance with the Scope of Professional Practice.
* Maintain standards of recordkeeping within the practice setting, utilising accepted standards where appropriate.
* Support the Ward Manager in clinical developments and act on behalf of women, carers and staff to ensure their views are represented at all levels.
* Provide midwifery care to women during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in all settings including home, GP, community centres and hospital.
* Contribute to service development, implementation, education, and teaching in the clinical setting.
* Participate in Preceptorship and Mentorship within the clinical settings.
* Attend updates and mandatory study days and training; input information and maintain knowledge of hospital and Maternity information systems.
* Attend training and updates on the implementation of Maternity Information System.
* On-call requirements and rotation within different areas of Maternity (inpatient, outpatient, and community) dependent on clinical need.
* Engage in research and development activities: knowledge of audit processes, clinical audit, and dissemination of findings.
* Promote and disseminate research findings; contribute ideas and monitoring for quality of women centred care.
Requirements / Professional Practice
* Maintain personal professional profile and revalidation; identify and negotiate training needs and address these through the Trust appraisal system.
* Maintain awareness of midwifery issues on the national agenda and communicate effectively (verbal and written).
* Coordinate responsibilities, capabilities and workload of team members.
* Observe the NHS Constitution Staff Responsibilities and align with Trust values and policies; adhere to professional standards, codes of conduct and legislation relevant to the role.
* Familiarise with and adhere to Trust policies and procedures; work to corporate/divisional objectives and standards; undertake mandatory and role specific training as required.
