About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen atAction for Stammering Childrenfor aDeputy CEO who is interested in combining their fundraisingexpertisewith adynamicleadership role. This is an excellentrolefor someone witha fundraising backgroundtoassistthe CEO ingrowing and diversifying the charity’s incomestreams andgaining experience in managingday-to-day operations.

The Deputy CEO will leadonimplementation of thefundraising strategy and support theCEO inmanagingoperational matters.It isanticipatedthat the successful candidate will have experience in donor acquisition and Trust and Foundation fundraising.

This role will involveworking closely with the CEOwhosetsthe strategic direction, overseesand evaluatesthe charity’sactivity portfolio,manages the charity’s partners,andrepresentsthecharity externally.A keypriorityforAction for Stammering Childrenis effectivelydemonstratingthe impact of its worktobeneficiaries,supportersand funders.We are thereforelookingfor someone with excellent communicationandorganisationalskills, passion for making a difference to children who stammer and their families, andexperience of line management.


Key responsibilities


Fundraising

* Implement ASC’scomprehensive fundraising strategy, which aims todiversifythe charity’s income streams,expandthe supporter baseandunderpinthe organisation’s financial sustainability.
* Provide quarterly reportsto the CEOon progresswiththefundraising strategy.
* Build andmaintainrelationships with current and prospective trustsand foundations, ensuring a deep understanding of their giving priorities anddemonstratingthe impact of their support.
* Lead on writing andsubmittingcompelling funding applications and reports togrant-makers, ensuring they align with the charity’s strategic goals.
* Lead on expanding the charity’sdonoracquisition programmeand developing a proposition for new regular givers.
* Overseethe Community Manager inimplementation of the donoracquisitionprogramme, volunteermanagementand supportingfundraisers.
* Take responsibility for donor stewardship ofthe charity’sregular givers.
* Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of funded projects, ensuring that funders receive detailed reports on outcomesand impact for beneficiaries.
* Work with the CEO to develop the charity’s corporate outreach programme, creating advocacy and fundraising opportunities.
* Build relationshipswithin the sector toidentifynew fundingopportunities andbuild connections with philanthropic organisations.


Team Management

* Responsible for line management of the Community Managerwhois responsible formarining internal stakeholders and expanding the supporterbase.
* Identifyskills gaps within the team and work with the CEO to develop training programmes, recruitnew staff, andfacilitateeffective team working.


Financial Administration

* Assist the CEO in preparationofthe annual fundraising budget.
* Monitor the return on investment (ROI) for fundraising activities, ensuring that resources are being utilised efficiently to generate income.
* Monitorandregularlyreportonexpenditure of restricted funding.
* Work closely with the finance team to ensure that financial records areup to date.
* Takeresponsibility formonitoringandreconcilingincome from challenge and community fundraising events,andinstitutionalgrants.


Governance and Compliance

* Ensurethestaffteamremaincompliant with relevant GDPR and data protectionregulations, andcomply withfundraising standardsatall times.
* Preparethe fundraisingreportfor the Boardandensurethat the Board is kept informedofkey fundraising appeals and opportunities.
* Assist the CEO in board secretariat duties, including organisation of board meetings and preparing the board pack.
* Maintain theorganisation’s policy and procedure review cycle.Contribute to the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures, ensuring that they align with legal and regulatory requirements.


Person Specification


Essential

* Experience of Trust and Foundation fundraising, including grant writing,monitoringand reporting.
* Experienceimplementing anorganisationalstrategy set by the CEO and Board of Trustees.
* Ability to effectively manage several projectssimultaneously andwork withotherteam members and external consultants tobring the project to completion.
* Someexpertisein individual giving fundraising,particularlydonor acquisition.
* Experience of community outreach, includingexpertiseinbuilding andmaintainingorganisationalmailing listsandstakeholder engagementvia online and offline events
* An effective communicator, capable of confidently implementing the charity’s national strategy andrepresenting the charity at external events.
* Ability to consistently implement the organisation’s brand strategy in external communications and stakeholder events.
* Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to manage relationships with keyinternal andexternal stakeholders.
* Undergraduate degree or higher.


Desirable

* Existing knowledge or experience of stammering or language and communicationdifficultiesfrom either a lived or academic perspective.
* Experienceusing financial accounting software (e.g.Sage, Xero), reconciling income/expenditure,andinterpreting management accounts.
* Experience with digital marketing tools, such as Meta AdsManagerand email marketing.
