The Role
The EHC Casework role falls within the SEN Monitoring and Assessment Team within the Children and Families department. An EHC Casework officer works closely with schools, colleges and other settings, as well as other professionals, to support children and young people with identified special educational needs and to provide advice to all parties.
Key Responsibilities
* Effectively communicate and work closely with children, young people and their families to ensure co‑production and that their views are fully represented and understood by agencies.
* Work closely with mainstream and special schools, including alternative education providers, on all aspects of special educational needs including the review, preparation, finalisation and issuing of amended EHCPs within the statutory timescales.
* Support and advise parents, children, young people, SENCOs and other professionals on the annual review process and paperwork alongside the SEN Code of Practice.
About You
* High‑level knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
* Understanding of and empathy with the issues that children and young people face.
* Working knowledge of current local and central government context and general issues within special education.
* Ability to interpret professional advice, including health and social care.
* Excellent time‑management and prioritisation skills and work to tight deadlines.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
