Role Overview
Responsible for delivering accurate payments to staff and police officers, both weekly and monthly, for a defined part of the payroll. Ensures compliance with legislation, Terms & Conditions of Service, and other agreements. Maintains confidentiality of staff records and completes payroll within set timescales.
Key Responsibilities
* Adhere to Service Delivery and Client policies, meeting audit requirements and deadlines.
* Handle queries from internal and external customers professionally via phone or email, escalating contentious issues to Payroll Management as needed.
* Report to the Payroll Manager, ensuring smooth payroll operations and target achievement.
* Manage payroll changes in line with requirements and communicate updates clearly to staff.
* Maintain up-to-date documentation on legislation and Terms & Conditions of Service.
* Verify responses to staff, client, and agency queries.
* Validate payroll alterations by team members, ensuring proper checks are in place.
* Ensure manual payments are accurate and processed timely.
* Complete payroll outputs and undertake higher-level activities under supervision.
* Assist with reconciliations, HMRC submissions, and journal requests as required.
* Potential to specialize in areas like reporting or salary sacrifice based on skills or training.
* Perform ad hoc tasks as needed.
Minimum Requirements
* 5 GCSEs A-C including English and Math or equivalent.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Teamwork and relationship-building abilities.
* Experience in investigating complex pay queries.
* Understanding of PAYE and National Insurance.
* Flexibility to handle increased workload.
* High data-entry accuracy and validation skills.
* Payroll or finance experience.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Payroll.
* Ability to interpret and communicate complex terms and conditions.
* Awareness of payroll-related law (employment rights, data protection).
* Experience processing multi-client payrolls.
* Manual handling skills per health & safety standards.
* Ability to calculate statutory and non-statutory deductions accurately.
* Experience in process improvement initiatives.
