Vacancy Notice

This vacancy is open to year 2, 3, 4 & 5 UofG undergraduate students, plus recent graduates.

Job Purpose

The BIM/Revit Technician Internship will support the Estates Directorate in developing accurate and high-quality Building Information Models (BIM) for the University’s built environment. Working under guidance, the role will involve creating and maintaining Revit models with the appropriate level of detail to enable estates colleagues to manage building information effectively.

The intern will assist in converting existing CAD and PDF drawings into Revit models, and where information gaps exist, help undertake building surveys using specialist equipment. This hands‑on experience will provide exposure to industry-standard processes for data capture, model creation, and quality assurance.

Working with the CAD & BIM Manager and other estates colleagues, this role offers an opportunity to develop technical skills in Revit, understand BIM standards, and learn how BIM integrates with facilities management systems and the university’s digital estate strategy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in producing accurate 3D Revit models of university buildings using data from surveys, existing CAD drawings, PDF plans, and historic records.
2. Support the review and interpretation of existing building information to inform model development, learning how to integrate legacy data into BIM models.
3. Undertake or assist in arranging architectural and MEP surveys, using specialist equipment under supervision to capture building data for model accuracy.
4. Apply University BIM and Revit standards, ensuring models comply with agreed protocols and incorporate required COBie data for asset management.
5. Participate in quality assurance checks, helping to model files for compliance with standards and learning best practices for data integrity.
6. Ensure Revit models and record filing are effectively and efficiently undertaken in accordance with agreed priorities.
7. Working with colleagues across various professional teams within the Estates Directorate to develop Revit models from existing data.
8. Interrogate as built information and existing records. Identify gaps in information.
9. Sufficient physical fitness to reach and capture site measurements using appropriate equipment across university buildings on the main Gilmorehill campus, Garscube and outlying areas.
