Job Purpose
As a Reach Out IT Student Ambassador, you will deliver first-class customer service to all users of Reach Out IT. You will undertake routine IT maintenance tasks as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver friendly, customer-focused, proactive support to all users of Reach Out IT, maintaining a high profile with customers and staff, and personally resolving issues to ensure an excellent customer experience, both in person and digitally using UofG Helpdesk.
Be an ambassador for the Reach Out service model. Wear Reach Out branded clothing (T-shirts/sweatshirts) visibly while on duty.
Assist users of computing facilities (University PCs or own devices) for work, study, or other approved purposes.
Provide first-level response to password change requests within operational procedures.
Respond to enquiries from all service users, prioritise and resolve or redirect to relevant teams such as Reach Out IT Technicians.
Assist with drop off and collection of IT hardware, verifying users, recording details, and transferring equipment.
Monitor IT facilities within the Library and cluster buildings, replacing consumables, correcting simple faults, and reporting issues via UofG Helpdesk.
Communicate urgent or significant IT issues following standard procedures.
Provide end-of-shift reports on notable events, trends, or difficulties.
Assist IT colleagues with installation and maintenance of student computing equipment and multi-function printers.
Share knowledge and troubleshooting tips proactively, contributing to the knowledgebase.
Assist with building evacuation procedures as fire warden after training.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
A1: Ability to demonstrate competencies for this post.
A2: Working knowledge of campus IT infrastructure, PC hardware, and common software.
A3: Familiarity with University applications like MyCampus, Moodle, Office365, and library access.
C1: Troubleshooting and user support skills.
C2: Friendly, professional, calm, and confident interpersonal skills.
C3: Ability to work independently within established procedures.
C4: Clear and effective communication skills, tailored to customer needs.
C5: Good time management skills.
E1: Current University of Glasgow student with experience using university IT systems.
E2: Experience troubleshooting general PC problems.
Desirable:
F1: Experience with Linux, Mac, or mobile devices.
F2: Customer-facing experience.
Terms and Conditions
