The Cellular Pathology department within the Royal Victoria Infirmary has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as Office Manager, working with the administrative, consultant, and scientific teams to lead the office.
Cellular Pathology supports tissue diagnostic pathways across all pathology specialties, including histology, diagnostic cytology, neuropathology, and autopsy. We are part of the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Pathology Network and host the regional Cellular Pathology Genomic Centre, supporting genomic testing pathways in collaboration with the NEY Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEYGLH). Our team comprises approximately 240 consultant, scientific, and laboratory support staff, delivering UKAS ISO15189 and HTA licensed activities. We also promote research and innovation through our dedicated clinical trial, tissue bank, and commercial project laboratories.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills to manage a team of about 15 staff. Essential criteria include previous management experience, recruitment, conducting appraisals, and performance management, with training support available. The role involves working closely with the Departmental Management Team, supporting the Department Manager and Clinical Leads in daily operational management.
The laboratory operates Monday to Friday between 7 am and 6 pm, with flexible working arrangements supported to accommodate personal and service needs. Enquiries are welcome.

The Office Manager will be responsible for overseeing administrative and clerical staff within the department, supporting operational issues, and ensuring effective communication across teams and regions. Responsibilities include managing service improvements, staff appointments, training, governance compliance, and contributing to departmental planning and development.
The role also involves liaising with senior clinicians, supporting multidisciplinary meetings, and working on local and national projects. The department supports over 6,500 patient contacts daily across multiple sites, including Freeman Hospital, RVI, and others, delivering cutting-edge healthcare and fostering innovation.
