We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse with Day Care Unit experience or significant experience in a surgical unit, to join our dynamic Adult Day Care Unit team at King George Hospital. We have been running an intense service with a quick turnaround of patients for elective theatres. We are one of the 8 Trusts in the entire NHS to be known as an established Surgical Elective Hub. We offer the best training and development programmes for our staff.
Main duties of the job
To act as a role model and provide leadership in the clinical area. To demonstrate advanced clinical specialist skills to provide the highest standard of individualised, evidence-based, patient-centred care while supervising the work of others. To be expected to take charge on each shift in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is continually improving, driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with over 330,000 visitors last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m needed to transform the A&E at Queen’s and eliminate corridor care.
Our patients benefit from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an extra 94,000 scans annually.
The majority of our 8,000 staff come from 146 different countries, living in the three diverse London boroughs we serve, representing various ethnic backgrounds. Many staff work flexibly, and over 400 are enrolled in our Ofsted-accredited apprenticeship programmes. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We look forward to introducing an electronic patient record system that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
