About the Pub The Mariner is a traditional community local pub with a light and airy interior and many original features. The pub has a first floor restaurant and large trade kitchen and is situated in a prominent position Folkestone harbour with fantastic views across the port and the sea beyond. The pub is extremely popular in the summer months, but also benefits from a good local trade in the winter months. The Mariner would suit an operator who would be able to grow the food trade even further. The property is a three storey public house in which the trading areas are arranged across the ground floor and part of the first floor. It consists of a L shaped main bar, comprising three separate areas, with open fireplaces, tables and chairs, decorated in a nautical theme with bench seating to the front of the bar area. On the first floor a turned staircase leads up to a restaurant for approximately 40 covers along with a fully equipped catering kitchen. Outside are patio style tables and chairs, which are placed upon the front of the premises on the pavement. Regional Manager's Thoughts The Mariner presents a fantastic opportunity to take on a traditional pub in the delightful town of Folkstone. The pub is well known for its quality food offer and its great location on the harbour with stunning views of the port and the sea. The ideal publican would need catering experience and want to demonstrate their skills to continue and develop the established trade. Surrounding Area In recent years the port of Folkestone has seen lots of regeneration and development, with brand new shopping areas, leisure facilities and boutique hotels. The nearby designated coastal park of Samphire Hoe is a wonderful place to wander and pass the time. The area’s maritime history is well preserved too, through ancient remains and architecture. The Royal Military Canal was built to repel Napoleon's troops, but today it flows silently through the town out towards the protected Romney Marsh and is a haven for endangered birdlife. Folkestone is also one of the best-connected towns on the coast, with direct rail links to London and is the ideal base for exploring the beautiful surrounding landscape.
