Qualifications
* Valid WV teaching certification or WVDE teaching permit or substitute permit or .
* High school diploma or GED
* WVSSAC certification

* Attends league, conference and WVSSAC meetings.
* Particiapates in activities that foster growth and devlopment.
* Motivates staff and players toward desired goals.
* Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language.
Coaching and Related Area
* Develops high caliber and quality instruction.
* Teachesfundamental skills.
* Handles athletic injuries.
* Cares for equipment.
* Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately.
* Designs quality organization of practice sessions.
* Designs pre-season planning.
* Supervises managers and other support personnel.
* Manages budget.
* Follows purchasing procedures.
* Iniates game organizational skills.
* Follows league, conference and WVSSAC policies.
* Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
* Follows end of season procedures.
* Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions

Non-Teaching Applicants must:
* Complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program Estimated Cost: $ 250.00
* Apply for position(s) annually
* Submit to; (upon initial assignment)
Criminal Background Check Estimated Cost: $ 47.25
Substance Screening Test
Be eligible and apply for certification as Coach through the WV Department of Education Estimated Cost: $ 35.00
Keep certification valid and current Estimated Annual Cost: $ 35.00

Requirements for Certified Teachers
NewTEACHERS that have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site
The training courses will be taught throughout the year.
Cost of the course will be $15.00
This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
