Role Description
The opto-mechanical design team seeks an enthusiastic and committed Engineer to support the design, analysis, and assembly of optical payloads.
Key Tasks
* Work within the Opto-Mechanical design team and with optical, electronic, and Systems Engineers to develop working designs for optical systems.
* Design opto-mechanical systems from initial concept to detailed final design using SolidWorks.
* Produce part and assembly manufacturing drawings.
* Support the integration of mechanical components in clean rooms and support optical and environmental testing.
* Maintain design logs and produce review materials.
* Undertake thermoelastic, static, and dynamic analysis of opto-mechanical components and assemblies, including optical surface deformation.
* Manage Work Packages.
* Support manufacturing activities liaising with suppliers.
Previous Experience
* Proven experience in the design, build, and testing of opto-mechanical systems, preferably for space optical payloads. Experience in other areas of precision engineering or the space industry will also be considered.
* Experience in some of the following areas:
o Mounting optical components: lenses, mirrors, prisms, filters, detectors, etc., using kinematic mounting principles.
o Material selection and manufacturing processes.
o Precision engineering in harsh environments.
o Mechanical design using 3D CAD.
o Assembly and alignment of space payloads.
o FE analysis.
o Report writing.
o Operation in a quality-assured environment.
o Delivery of work packages within budgets.
