12-month fixed term contract, Full-Time Post The role We are recruiting into the role of Youth Offer Development Lead, to play a key part in continuing to develop and implement Solihull Council’s ambitions concerning opportunities and activities for young people across the borough. This is a diverse and interesting role, working across the universal, community and targeted elements of the local “youth offer”, with stakeholders from the voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise sectors, as well as education, health, community safety and children’s services. The role comes during a period when the prominence and importance of youth services, youth centres, positive activities for young people are on the rise again. This is as a result of changes to national policy and strategy, including an incoming National Youth Strategy, as well as the recognised value that the investment in young people’s personal, social and emotional development has for a range of outcomes from education to health and community safety. Over the last year Solihull Council has made some significant strides forward in developing and re-establishing a “Youth Offer” for young people aged 11yrs with better data, insights and partnerships, as well as the starting up of new community-based provision. Some excellent foundations have been laid, and we are now looking for the right candidate to build on the progress achieved to date and delivery our priorities for the next 12 months. There are three core elements to the role. The first is the community development of opportunities, activities and safe spaces for young people in three priority neighbourhoods during the next 12 months. The second is further developing and embedding partnerships between the VCFSE sectors, children’s services and education, particularly to benefit young people who may be vulnerable. And the third is continuing to develop the borough wide approach to creating a better Youth Offer, including alignment with government priorities and the implementation of approaches to engagement with young people. Working at management level, you will also contribute to the wider leadership of the Stronger Communities division, which includes working with and supporting colleagues involved in community development, VCFSE partnerships and programmes, community safety, newly arrived communities and refugee resettlement. Key requirements To succeed, you’ll need to be an expert in youth work, able to manage and coordinate activity within a multi-agency environment. You will have: Relevant degree level qualification in a youth work, social, communities or related discipline and / or significant relevant knowledge and skills built up through extended experience in a youth work, or related field. Proven partnership experience, working with a variety of voluntary, community, public and private sector stakeholders on joint projects and programmes. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to inform and influence stakeholders through written briefings and reports, as well as through the development of effective relationships. An ability to understand and analyse a range of sometimes complex and interconnected data, in order to develop new ideas, activities and opportunities. The offer In return, we offer the opportunity to develop your experience and expertise, ideas and skills within a challenging and dynamic environment. As an employee of Solihull Council, you will also benefit from a competitive salary, attractive staff benefits, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and a range of flexible working options. This will include benefitting from the implementation of our Smarter Ways of Working, reflecting that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go to do it.
