Band 7 Highly Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist Team Leader

Main duties of the job

Candidates should be passionate about supporting, promoting, and sharing good practice with educational colleagues, families, children and young people across the city, strengthening their skills in supporting the SEND agenda.

Candidates must have:

* Skills in supporting staff management an/or a desire to develop these skills.
* highly developed clinical and negotiation skills
* experience with providing training to parents and/or education settings
* experience with monitoring, reviewing and evaluating service provision

You will contribute to the development of the OT services alongside colleagues, Service Clinical Managers and the Professional Leads. You may also have responsibility for supervision of designated staff.

About us

The Occupational Therapy teams work as part of Inclusion Services within the Children and Families Division of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We work across the whole City, within a range of community and educational settings, thus requiring successful applicants to demonstrate a high level of flexibility.

Job responsibilities

1. Responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the designated team, including monitoring and authorisation of annual leave, ensuring that there is adequate cover during any planned or unplanned absence (including sickness absence)

2. Manage study leave, authorising leave and discussing with the Service Managers and Professional Clinical Leads any matters of finance or staff development needs.

3. Authorise travel and other expenses as required, within approved authority limits.

4. Be responsible for the monitoring of attendance at mandatory training, including ensuring robust records are kept, using admin support as appropriate.

5. Manage short and long term sickness absence, including return to work interviews, monitoring of episodes of sickness absence, and undertaking Stage meetings as appropriate. Be responsible for ensuring that relevant information is inputted into ESR system.

6. Manage staff performance/disciplinary matters within the designated team, with support from the Service Operational Manager/Service Clinical Manager.

7. Support the Professional Leads and Service Clinical Manager in the development and implementation of an appropriate training programme for members of the team across the locality, using information from appraisals and personal development plans e.g. coordinate local mandatory training in bases.

8. Take a role in the local implementation and monitoring of clinical supervision/ practice support systems in line with relevant policies and procedures. Ensure accurate records are kept on ESR.

9. Assist the Service Clinical Manager and Professional Leads in the recruitment, selection and induction of staff, as required.

10. Support the Service Clinical Manager and Professional Lead in ensuring that all staff and students are maintaining the Trust and professional standards for record keeping, via the annual Trust audit.


Person Specification


Qualifications / training

* Degree Qualification relevant in Occupational Therapy
* Full Membership of Professional body ,
* Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
* Evidence of continuing professional development


Experience

* Extensive post registration experience working as a therapist with children
* Significant experience working in the relevant specialist clinical area
* Relevant experience of working in community settings and with diverse populations, including working with interpreters
* Relevant experience of managing, leading or coordinating a team or project
* Ability to generate written communication, which is relevant, concise, accurate and legible
* Ability to respond flexibly in a changing work environment
* Is able to drive in the UK and have access to a car for work.
* Ability to communicate verbally in a manner appropriate to a variety of parties, dealing with sensitive and complex information, and taking into account barriers to understanding.


Skills/Knowledge

* Understanding of the principles of Equality and Diversity in relation to both staff and service users
* Understanding of the values and vision of the Trust
* Knowledge of the SEND, local authority and NHS drivers and challenges as they affect and impact on service delivery
* Awareness of recent clinical developments and professional issues.
* Proven ability to work independently and to manage the conflicting demands of a clinical and managerial workload
* Proven ability to liaise and work effectively with other professionals and agencies
* Knowledge of HR policies relevant to the support and management of staff
