Overview

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. If sponsorship is required, your application may be withdrawn. We are looking to recruit 4 enthusiastic part-time Mental Health Peer Support Workers to work in our mental health inpatient wards at St Georges Hospital, Stafford.

We have posts available on each of the following wards:

* Norbury House (Male PICU Ward)
* Milford House (Mixed sex adult acute ward)
* Chebsey House (Mixed sex adult acute ward)
* Brocton House (Mixed sex adult acute ward)

Applicants must have personal lived experience of mental health difficulties and of receiving care in the relevant setting. In this instance, applicants who do not hold lived experience of either accessing secondary mental health services and/or acute inpatient mental health services need not apply.

Please note: lived experience questions are part of the application process and only those who answer the question will be considered for shortlisting.

Role and responsibilities

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users to help them regain control over their lives and their recovery journey. Through sharing your lived experience, you will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible for others. You will facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.

You will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service, alongside other Trust recovery champions, and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. You will also have the opportunity to co-work with other colleagues and there will be some opportunities for group work.

Join an award-winning NHS Trust that leads in trying new and better ways of working to improve life for local communities.

About the Trust

We have around 9,000 staff providing physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities, and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We also run regional and national services, including perinatal care, eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health, and support for people in prison with mental health, drug, or alcohol problems.

We offer great career development for both clinical and non-clinical roles, with ongoing training and support to help you learn and grow. We are United in our Uniqueness and committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves, no matter their background or identity. We want our staff to feel supported and valued, and we aim to build a team that reflects the communities we serve. Together, we can ensure every voice is heard and every difference is respected.
