The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee all financial operations of the City of Portsmouth, providing strategic financial leadership and ensuring the fiscal health of the organization. Key responsibilities include developing and managing financial strategies, overseeing budgeting and financial reporting processes, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The CFO will work closely with city leadership to provide expert financial analysis and advisement, support decision-making with fiscal insights, and lead the finance team to achieve organizational goals. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Portsmouth, VA. Qualifications
Expertise in Financial Planning and Finance, with the ability to develop and implement effective financial strategies Proficiency in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting Financial Statements and Financial Reporting Strong Analytical Skills to assess financial data and provide actionable insights Comprehensive understanding of municipal finance, budgeting, and compliance requirements Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with city staff, stakeholders, and elected officials Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA designation preferred) Extensive experience in public sector finance or a related field is highly desirable
